Session 120: Untangling Negative Messages About Our Hair

Feb 9, 2021 | Between Sessions Podcast

We’ve all been following the story about Tessica Brown & her use of Gorilla Glue, an industrial-strength adhesive, to slick down her hair.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
After a month of unsuccessfully removing the adhesive from her hair, Tessica shared her story on Instagram. The situation, ultimately, caused her to seek out medical treatment.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We are praying for sis & hope this nightmare is over for her soon.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Tessica’s story got us thinking of all the negative messages Black women receive about their hair & beauty. These messages have caused many of us to go to extremes hoping to fit society’s standards of beauty.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
There’s way more than hair that needs to be untangled in our life! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Check out this week’s Between Sessions Podcast episode as we explore the impacts messages like these have on our lives & what we do as a result of them.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We also want to hear from you. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What hair treatment seemed like a good idea at the time but ended up being a disaster for you?
