Therapists and Co-Owners of Melanin and Mental Health, Eliza Boquin and Eboni Harris kick off the first episode of their new podcast: Between Sessions Podcast. In this episode, the Latina and Black therapists discuss why some people don’t go to therapy. They address how cultural beliefs and myths about therapy lessens the rate minorities seek help to maintain or improve their mental health.

Here are the myths that were discussed in this video.

  1. Therapy is too expensive.
  2. It’s only for people with real problems.
  3. I can just pray about it.
  4.  I have friends, why would I tell my problems to a stranger.

Let us know what reasons you have heard for not going to therapy and/or why you haven’t tried therapy.
