I get it, going to therapy is already an awkward thing to do and it makes it that much more challenging when you worry about if the person across from you really understands you or your culture without having to explain in grave detail…and that’s if it’s acknowledged.
When we moved to Waco, I wanted to get an idea of the private practitioners here.

In all of my searching, I found 2 female women of color and 0 men of color who were a professional therapists. I saw this as both a problem and an opportunity and as a result, we established a mental health clinic that would give people of color a choice…because it matters.
