Hi! My name is Lauren. I'm passionate, inquisitive, empathetic and analytical. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Washington, DC (LICSW) and Maryland (LCSW-C). I'm also an artist, a solution-finder and an entrepreneur. I created The Remix as a restorative, virtual platform to talk about mental health in unconventional ways. I'm a firm believer in creating safe, supportive spaces that also challenge traditional therapy. In 2011, I graduated from Winston-Salem State University with my Bachelor of Social Work (BSW). Not long after, in 2013, I earned my Master of Social Work (MSW) degree and Social Entrepreneurship certificate from Washington University in St. Louis. I love all things mental health, specifically within our black and brown communities. I'm a firm believer that if you do not make time for your wellness, you will be forced to make time for your illness.
Art is powerful and encourages change. It promotes growth and shows us how to become vulnerable and heal. Art is therapeutic; it allows us to interpret and process new information. I use expressive arts (dance, poetry, film, food, etc.) play and aromatherapy in my clinical practice to engage, educate and explore emotional wellness! I have an eclectic style and combine cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), trauma-informed/focused practices, and solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT). This is a goal-oriented framework that identifies the connections between thoughts, feelings and behaviors; while keeping focused on the present and future.
Although I am an expert in behavioral health, I specialize in supporting my clients develop and sustain healthy boundaries with self and others. Topics during session may include, but are not limited to: healthy relationships, workplace stress and burnout, self-care, goal-setting, purpose and career exploration, financial wellness and so much more.
As a Marylander native to Prince George's County, there is a special place in my heart to serve the community that helped raise me. I dedicate approximately 75% of my caseload space to residents of Prince George's County.
"Re" was created to help us understand that we do not always get things right the first time around. It also reminds us that even when things are good, we can always shift towards the direction of amazing! Like a remix of song, The Remix encourages us that in order to create change, we do not need to start from scratch. Instead, we can begin where we are, with what we have; and with minor tweaks...ourselves, our relationships, our entire lives will be: Restored. Renewed. Refreshed. Redefined. Revised. Revamped. Restarted. Remixed.
"Change is a process...not a destination; and it must begin with the mind."
